Catalina Toro is a Colombian born multidisciplinary artist residing in New York City, her energy flows through her work in a confident yet emotionally responsive fashion. The artist's unique history reflects in her perspective.
Born and raised in Colombia in 1978, Catalina has lived in New York City since 1998.
Entirely self taught and while being closely mentored and assisting top NYC artists she immersed herself into the arts and art's history. Catalina has nurtured and developed a style that blends her love for art with the potency of mythic symbolism. Her current work reflects her heritage and the rich cultural milieu of the contemporary world, acting in solidarity with humanity and expressing passing situations through the prismatic lens of her exacting eye and questing spirit.
Influenced by her collaborations with prominent NYC artists and the music scene, Catalina’s work reflects a confident yet emotionally responsive energy shaped by her diverse cultural background and artistic exploration.
Her art incorporates a variety of mediums, including oil and acrylic paints, charcoal, pastels, UV art and gold leaf. Her techniques are influenced by Expressionism, Impressionism and Surrealism among other styles and all blended with the vibrancy of NYC’s pop art scene, resulting in a style that is both innovative and deeply personal.
In addition to her studio practice, Catalina is known for her live painting performances in New York City venues, where she actively engages with the local art scene.
She also collaborates with brands, gives art workshops and is active in activism, supporting environmental, human, and women’s rights. Her practice extends beyond the canvas, where action and creation become part of the same language.
